Purple Gold

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 27, 2005, 9:31 PM
Purple gold was brought to my attention last week. Someone said they had tried to do makume with it and it hadnt really worked out.... I was like "what?" they have gold thats purple?! Umm purple is my favourite colour. I am a bit of a purple freak....everything I wear is usually black and purple. So I got very excited at the idea of purple gold.

I was just wondering if anyone I know on Deviant Art has experimented with Purple gold or knows anything more about it that I dont.

Apparantly its an alloy of Alliminium (20%) and Gold (80%). The colour is beautiful but the alloy is not malleable and shatters when you try to drill it or work with it. In Singapore there is a company that has figured out how to make it workable. They have patents on it which mean they are the only ones who can distribute it ready made...

anyway it sounds interesting so let me know if you find any good websites...I havnt been able to... or if you have any experiences with the stuff.

Thanks :)

music and graduation

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 26, 2005, 5:25 PM
Well , in a weeks time I would have graduated from my Diploma in jewellery. Its been wonderful studying but I am really looking forward to doing something different. Im struggling to figure out what I am going to do still. There are so many options at this stage and all of them have advantages and consequences. I am rather excited about not knowing what on earth I am doing and also nervous.

On another note. Last night I went to see the Foo Fighters. It was the third time I have seen them, but this time was better because the other two times I saw them play were at New Zealands biggest music festival 'Big Day Out'. Anyway the played for about 2 hours. Dave Grohl and the drummer Taylor were amazing. They are seriously passionate preformers and I loved the way they grinned non stop. I made it up to the 3rd/4th row. I often wondered if a band was worth risking my life for because thats what it seemed I was doing some of the stage. But yeh...I have lived through worse 'mosh pits' than that before. They played one of there new songs 'reserved' for the first time ever live....and yeh it was just an amazing performance and Im glad I bought my ticket nice and early back in April before it sold out.

My boyfriend played in the world battle of the bands last night in Hong Kong. I would have loved to have been there...but it just wasnt the right time. His band 'The Twitch' came second and a hong Kong band that reminds me alot of slipknot came first.

I have a final school 'exhibition' thing is starting from the end of next week. I am going to man it one day and then after that...I am really going to have alot more time on my hands for a short while...

ok I am at my friends house and being rude playing on the computer when we are suppiosed to be going out and getting on with the day...

hope you are all well and happy people.

Im sorry people but I have just had no time lately to be the good little diviantarter that I once was. Things are pretty hectic but I will try to look at your works one day although it will be very delayed. I have my exhibition opening next sunday...so I am trying to make one more piece and finishing off a couple of pieces by this coming wednesday. There is also heaps of other things happening aswell. I have quite a few exciting things to look forward to over the next couple of weeks but at the same time Im looking forward for everything to be out of the way and for life to be back normal again. Perhaps its just that end of the year buzz if you know what I mean.

new tools and carving

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 18, 2005, 6:38 PM
I bought myself a hanging motor ....its my first big tool purchase...very exciting :) So my boyfriend(josh) helped me set it all up and I spent hours last night and thismorning carving a piece of Lapis into a twisting celtic shape...then a few minutes ago when I was starting to clean it up it broke! Ohwell it was fun trying anyway. I hadnt really thought about what it would be like carving lapis... Lapis is what they used to (and still do I think?) make blue paint out of...and so when you are caving and using water a blueish water flicks absolutely everywhere... I put on sunglasses to protect my eyes and news paper up on the wall to protect that... but I've just blown my nose and my snot is blue... think its time to hunt down a mask or something....hopefully lapis is not too toxic.

I think Im going to go carving mad for awhile... its nice that I have a two week holiday from my course at the moment and lots of time at home to much around.

gallery!

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 28, 2005, 5:57 PM
My work has been accepted at my favourite jewellery gallery! I have just been told that it is on display now and they are going to leave it out for 3 months and see how it goes. YAY. Very happy about this, it makes me feel positive about what I have been doing with my life for the past three years. I like the fact that my work will be on display alongside other jewellers who's work I have alot of admiration and respect for.

I bought some diamond burrs today and I am going to have a go at stone carving which is something that I have been wanting to learn for a very long time. I really want to incorperate stone in my work in very non traditional ways...
